The McBride Lewa Internship

July 18 to August 1, 2026

Immersion in the awe and inspiration of a place that moves to an ancient rhythm and echoes with the timeless voices and shadowed footsteps of those who came before.

What stories do these footprints tell?

Take an exhilerating plunge into the unknown.

Ponder the heaviest footsteps in the world.

Reflect on the elegance of wildlife in a rapidly changing world.

The 2022 McBride Internship with Ephantus Mugo,
head of the Lewa Conservancy Education Program.

THE TEAM

Picture

Dominic Karmushu

Dominic is a Maasai guide who at the age of 5 was herding his father's cattle alone on the slopes of Mt. Kenya. He brings the astonishing depth of flora and fauna of Lewa to life through his keen observations, demonstrations and stories.

Kate McBride

Kate is John and Laurie McBride's daughter.  She owns and operates The Other Side Ranch a dairy where she also runs an equine fitness & rehab center. Kate has been overseeing the logistics of the McBride Internship for many years, has traveled to Africa many times and has started the very successful  "at home" version of the internship held every summer on the family's Lost Marbles Ranch in Snowmass.
